Teen Model FAQs

I also want to act and host.

Many models want that as well and its a great reason for college. Unlike teen modelsing, acting is a learned skill and to host it's pretty much required. Look for schools with strong theater or drama departments, it will even help with commercial modeling!

What is considered "age appropriate" for teens?

You can shoot in dresses, shorts, coordinates, jeans, and swimwear. That's almost everything but lingerie but there's more you can't do as a teen model when shooting with us and you'll read about that in the next FAQ.

Don't agencies want to see me look sexy?

No. Agencies want you to be beautiful.

Do I need a big modeling portfolio to get started, or signed?

Not unless you are already signed and need it for clients. Once signed, your agency will help you with that. No matter what you do now they'll want something different anyway. Please read the Get Signed and Get Facts sections, we talk a lot about that.

I heard a lot of agencies are scams?

That's true. and the same can be true of modeling schools and conventions. We will soon dedicate a blog about that and one for teen modeling as well. For now be careful.

Can I do a FHM Test Shoot?

You can attend a FHM casting before turning 18 (you do have to be 18 before the shoot), but you cannot do a FHM test until you turn 18.

I want to finish high school before going to New York.

We are extremely pro education. However, if you get an offer from one of the big and reputable agencies in New York, you will have to consider that. They are accustomed to teen models and you can go to school there, commute to an extent, and most of the big agencies will help you with your education when you arrive. Insist on that before going.

Gotcha. But can I start modeling as a teen in my home town for now?

Yes, of course. You just won't have all the same oportunities.

I plan to go to college after modeling.

It's a mistake to wait. You can model and go to college. If you work so much that you cannot, you'll be making a lot of money and still be able to go part time. College will be very important to you later, including in your modeling or entertainment career.

Can my sister/best friend come to the shoot?

Sorry, no visitors unless a female parent or legal guardian and are a minor teen.

What about a modeling school?

You do not need to go to modeling school to become a teen model, you need an agency. Modeling schools can be very misleading and unhelpful.

Can my parent(s) come to the shoot?

We encourage parents to come to shoots if you are a minor. One caveat: For the privacy of other models, it has to be your Mom. Also, it has to be at a Teen CAT-Shoot, we cannot allow visitors at regular CAT-Shoots. For teen models (under 18 only) we will also do a private day if we have time for the price of an agency CAT-Shoot.
