We describe these, including instruction on how to take them yourself in our blog, but to review, here are the six basic poses:

• Headshot from the front.
• Smiling headshot from the front.
• Profile headshot with hair pulled back.
• Full body front.
• Full body profile.
• And full body from behind.

No makeup, no hint of anything other than natural lighting, and no attempt to be cute. Not very flattering but it’s what agencies want and expect.

“Loft Style” Polaroids for models

Agencies want to see the raw girl like a blank canvas. The new faces bookers at most agencies are good at being able to tell who is qualified from Polaroids, but they also look at a lot of models every day.

Standing out is always your goal. By submitting all your Polaroids on one sheet, it leaves room for more images to be sent.

Breaking completely away from what agencies want to see is not a good idea. So we devised “Loft Style” Polaroids to include as well. They are named after the typical New York loft studio images that are taken by photographers that do text shoots for agencies. This keeps these images within the genre of what bookers are used to seeing, and used to seeing from models they have already decided they are interested in.

Some of the basic premises of regular Polaroids are maintained. The lighting looks like window light. While some makeup maybe applied, it is kept very natural so it is not noticeable. And you let your hair down, but for the most party un-styled.

Not only are these more flattering but they also let you show some fluidity and expression.
